Dundrum Coastal Rowing Icebreaker Regatta 23rd January 2016

Dundrum Coastal Rowing Club hosted its "Icebreaker Challenge" rowing regatta on the 23rd January, the first coastal rowing regatta of 2016. The hand built St Ayles Skiffs took part from the villages of Donaghadee, Dundrum, Killyleagh, Portaferry and Strangford; unfortunately 2 boats were undergoing repairs and couldn’t make it. Special thanks have to go to "The Dundrum Development Association Ltd" for sponsoring the event, the time keepers and our rescue boat team.

The "Frozen Rollocks Trophy" for best club on the day went to Dundrum

Wonderful news! The beautiful tall ship Johanna Lucretia that arrived in for our Festival to Cook St Quay in Portaferry is offering sailing trips in the Lough on Friday (tomorrow), Saturday and Sunday.
This is a great opportunity but places are limited to twelve lucky people per sailing, so first come first served. Prices are £15 per adult and £10 per child under 15 years old. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Life jackets are provided.

World Championships Come to Strangford Lough

Strangford Lough, County Down, Northern Ireland, has been selected as the venue for a major, international coastal rowing event, "Skiffieworlds 2016"; it was announced today, by the Scottish Coastal Rowing Association (SCRA). 800 competitors, some from as far away as the United States and Tasmania, and up to 60 boats, are expected to participate in these World Championships for the St Ayles' Skiff class of coastal rowing boat. MEDIEVAL MAYHEM AT STRANGFORD LOUGH FESTIVAL

Portaferry will be filled with Medieval Mayhem on Sat 13 and Sun 14 June during the annual Strangford Lough Festival. Those turbulent times were action packed and you can try on chain mail, wield a sword and bring out your inner thirst for battle with the castles' men–at-arms. Falconry and archery displays and have-a-go sessions will be a huge draw at Exploris Park and you can also pick up some ancient recipes or try out your writing skills with the cooks and scriptor monk.
