MEDIEVAL MAYHEM AT STRANGFORD LOUGH FESTIVAL
Portaferry will be filled with Medieval Mayhem on Sat 13 and Sun 14 June during the annual Strangford Lough Festival. Those turbulent times were action packed and you can try on chain mail, wield a sword and bring out your inner thirst for battle with the castles' men–at-arms. Falconry and archery displays and have-a-go sessions will be a huge draw at Exploris Park and you can also pick up some ancient recipes or try out your writing skills with the cooks and scriptor monk.
The Festival will feature our rich legacy of medieval castles and graveyards, which is particularly appropriate as the Strangford Lough, Lecale and Ards area has more scheduled built heritage and monuments than anywhere else in Northern Ireland.
Expert guides will bring the stories of the Tower House Castles to life in both Strangford and Portaferry and children can get stuck in to their own archaeology dig with the brilliant Archaeology NI Roadshow. Archaeologists will also fascinate you with their tour of the medieval Templecranny graveyard.
The Strangford Lough Festival runs from 10-14 June in Portaferry and Strangford. The events are mostly FREE, with something for everyone, from getting your hands on marine mini beasties to heritage boat trips.
