Leave No Trace Training

Through the community planning process, the National Trust, Ards and North Down Borough Council, The Strangford Lough and Lecale Partnership along with Sport NI are working together to co-deliver on an action to: “Increase opportunities for outdoor recreation due to the diversity of options available e.g. mountain biking, family cycling, horse riding, running, walking etc.” To help deliver on this it is recognised that outdoor learning plays a key role.

As such the partners have arranged Leave No Trace training for representatives of organisations and clubs involved locally in outdoor recreation.

Leave No Trace is an outdoor ethics programme designed to promote and inspire responsible outdoor recreation through education, research and partnerships. Put simply, it teaches people how to enjoy the outdoors responsibly, minimising any negative impact. The emphasis is on the ‘outdoor classroom’ with discussion on all the principles of Leave No Trace and the practicalities involved in implementing these principles in outdoor recreational use. Strangford Lough and Lecale Partnership organised training courses to be held across the AONB, in Mount Stewart and Castle Ward. Many thanks to these two National Trust properties for their kind hospitality and for hosting the training.
