Sea Changers Grant Funding Success for Ballyhornan Scout Centre
Local people play a huge role in looking after the fabulous coastline of the Strangford Lough and Lecale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Sadly, even here, as well as being unsightly, litter poses a threat to wildlife and people. The Strangford Lough and Lecale Partnership (SLLP) is delighted that SeaChangers has helped them and teams of local Scouts to take direct action to tackle this along beautiful Ballyhornan Beach.
The Scout Centre is just 200 metres from the beach in County Down, on the East Coast of Northern Ireland. Given its location, the centre is ideally located for housing shore clean-up equipment purchased through SeaChangers, providing a base for shore cleaning activities with visiting Scout and community groups. SLLP staff will be on hand to not only help with the clean ups, but also convey some of the wonders of our shore creatures and plants.
“SeaChangers is helping us to raise awareness of the impacts of human activity on the environment and instil a sense of pride in young people who will be equipped and committed to caring for their stretch of coastline, for their use and for the use of future generations” said SLLP Manager, Caroline Nolan.

Sea-Changers recognise that a range of actions and solutions are required in order to create the sea change that is needed, to ensure the future health and sustainability of the world's oceans. Given this, we raise money for a range of, primarily UK based, marine conservation charities and organisations. The projects funded all fall within one of the following areas:
- Marine Reserves/Protected Marine Areas
- Direct Marine Action
- Education, Campaigning and Awareness
- Species Protection and Research
