PEOPLE AND LANDSCAPE ROADSHOW COMES TO DOWNPATRICK

Have a great time for all the family when the “People and Landscape” Roadshow comes to Downpatrick’s St Patricks Centre on Saturday 11 February.  The Exploris Aquarium in Portaferry was packed last Saturday when the Roadshow started its tour and the feedback has been tremendous.

“People are really positive about the displays and about giving us their views on the area’s heritage,” says Caroline Nolan from the Strangford Lough and Lecale Partnership who are touring the Roadshow.  “There is something for everyone - from the children building their heritage pyramids to the adults wanting detailed information.  People have also been delighted with the new, high quality booklets that we giving away free – not to mention the seaweed artwork and heritage pyramids”.

This is the first exhibition on the Strangford and Lecale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and includes the amazing underwater world of the Strangford Narrows on film, a gigantic model basking shark, stunning photography, build your own heritage pyramid and sea weed art workshops.

The Roadshow has been developed by the Strangford Lough and Lecale Partnership as part of work on a management strategy for the area’s heritage. It provides lots of information on landscape, wildlife and historic sites and also gives people the opportunity to have their views and ideas heard.

Our landscape is part of us and we are part of it but will we pass it on in good shape for future generations to enjoy and use?  There is a great future for some new businesses and most of our landscape is very well looked after. But what if we lost our wildlife, our beautiful old buildings fell down, our hedges were bulldozed and our water polluted?  What matters to you?

Find out more and have your say on everything from hedges and horse mussels to sea-life and squirrels through chatting with some of the Partnership’s organisation or posting your comments.
