Boating
Strangford Lough is a popular area for the use of powerboats which vary in size from small punts and waterskiing boats, to rigid inflatable boats (RIBs) and large ‘gin palaces’.
Pleasure Crafts
If your vessel is a pleasure craft, no regulations apply to use in Strangford Lough and voluntary codes are important to minimise the impact of your activities on other Lough users and the environment.
Regulations do however apply to pleasure vessels that are greater than 13.7m long and are seagoing. For more information see
Pleasure Craft Regulations & Equipment
Jet Ski users
In Strangford Lough jet ski users are asked to respect the Road Service sign at the Strangford Ferry terminal which stipulates that jet skis are strictly not allowed in the vicinity of the terminal, or allowed to use the slipway.
