Greyabbey
Greyabbey takes its name from the ruins of a 12th century Cistercian abbey f
ound in the village. Afrecca, wife of John de Courcy founded the abbey, in 1193. The abbey is set in an 18th century park, with a medieval style physic garden and small exhibition centre. In the adjacent parish church graveyard there are gravestones going back to the 18th century including some from the 1798 rebellion.
Greyabbey also has a number of interesting antique shops as well as fine examples of Victorian and Georgian architecture.
