Bird Watching

Strangford Lough provides many access points to view birds such as terns, grebes, shoveler, mallard, wigeon, shelduck, brent geese, oyster catcher, plovers, heron, curlew, redshank and turnstones.

On the Western Shore;

  • Comber - Island Hill and Castle Espie.
  • Reagh Island (beside Mahee Island)
  • Whiterock.
On the Eastern Shore;

  • Newtownards- car park at Floodgates.
  • Mount Stewart Road - Maltings, Barr's Bay car park and Gas Works  
  • Greyabbey
