Literature
With a cultural heritage as rich and diverse as its topography, it is hardly surprising that Strangford boasts such a wide range of fiction, poetry and song, nor that it has attracted – and continues to draw – so many writers to its shores.
Its literature is inflected with the distinct sense of place that has characterised the area for generations. Whether native to Strangford, newly settled, or simply passing through, writers continue to find metaphors, mysteries and inspiration in its landscape and culture.
Literary Strangford
‘Literary Strangford’ is a brief introduction to Strangford’s rich literary history, connecting writers and their texts to the Lough’s beautiful and often hidden locations. It does not claim to be definitive, but simply offers a selection of writing – novels and short stories, poetry and song, drama and memoirs – which, to varying degrees, bear the influence of Strangford Lough.
